Recently I have been interested in cartography and the important role it plays in how we comprehend the spaces we inhabit. An atlas is a collection of maps, often several maps show the same area but map different details and data, each time revealing another facet of the land's geography. Small Atlas lays out a small set of musical units using time as its canvas, but in another sense every work of music maps out a series of physical actions, instructing the performer to explore their connection with their surroundings in a characteristic fashion. Here, the singer begins with the phrase ‘J’existe’ and, through their existence, the performers briefly map time.
Small Atlas was written for the composition workshops at Centre Acanthes 2011 in Metz, France, where it was premiered on 12 July by Mario Caroli (flute), Pierre-Stéphane Meugé (saxophone), Donatienne Michel-Dansac (voice) and Vincent Leterme (piano).

Je me suis intéressé récemment à la cartographie et au rôle important qu'elle joue dans la façon dont nous comprenons les espaces que nous habitons. Un atlas est une collection de cartes : plusieurs cartes peuvent se référer à la même superficie, mais les détails et les données sont différents et permettent chaque fois de découvrir une autre facette de la géographie de la région. Small Atlas expose un petit group d'éléments musicaux, en utilisant le temps comme toile, mais, dans un autre sense, chaque morceau de musique dessine une carte qui indique une série d'actions physiques en guidant l'interpète dans l'exploration de sa relation avec son environnement. Ici, la chanteuse commence avec la phrase « J'existe » et, par leur existence, les interprètes créent brièvement une carte du temps.
